LeQuire lectured on a new non-surgical technique to manage uterine fibroids called uterine fibroid embolization. He called uterine fibroid disease “a trend in American medicine for some 20 to 30 years,” and said it is targeted for women in the 35-55 age group. “About 20 to 40 percent of all women over age 35 have uterine fibroid disease,” said LeQuire, who added the disease may be medically connected to infertility problems. “Treatment for fibroid disease may actually help childbirth,” the specialist said. “There’s not any proof right now, but women may have infertility because of fibroid disease.” Many women may be unfamiliar with uterine fibroid embolization.
