Fingernails Point to Health Issues.

blog-nailsEyes may be the window to the soul, but your nails (believe it or not) can be a gateway to hidden health issues. Nails are a living extension of your body, and while it’s typical for us to focus on whether they are well groomed or nicely painted, a closer look can tell you a few things you may not know about your overall well-being.

If you’re noticing white spots this is a pretty good indication you have a vitamin or mineral deficiency. If a good multi-vitamin isn’t part of your regimen, this would be a good time to consider getting started.

If your nails are brittle and separate easily from the nail bed, you may have a thyroid condition. Talk to your doctor. The sooner a thyroid imbalance is diagnosed and treated, the better.

If your nails are thin and concave, this is probably a sign you lack iron and need to step things up in that department with a good supplement or by adding iron rich foods to your diet.

If your nails are flakey or tend to become overly thick, a fungal growth could be the culprit. Over-the-counter topical treatments are easy to obtain. But for the full story and a direct diagnostic, speak to a dermatologist.
