SAN DIEGO, March 11 — Newer generation, calibrated uterine artery embolization agents may hold some advantages over older polyvinyl alcohol particles in real-world clinical practice, researchers said here.
Uterine fibroid volume dropped significantly more with Bead Block and Embosphere particles compared with the older polyvinyl alcohol Contour and Contour SE (53% and 48% versus 28% and 25%, P=0.007), Jonathan V.P. Liaw, M.D., of Massachusetts General Hospital, and colleagues found.
Differences between the two newer agents were not significant, they told attendees at the Society of Interventional Radiology meeting.
